June 30, 2010, Silang…………..Chen Hui is known in Philippine diplomatic circles as Angela Stefanutti, the wife of the Italian Consul to the Philippines, Adriano Stefanutti. But in the distinctive world of art and culture, she is the quintessential botanical artist.

26 original signed watercolors comprise the exhibit of Botanical Illustrations by Chen Hui, and will begin a month-long exhibition On Friday, 6 July at 3:00PM, at The Dining Room of Gourmet Farms at Km 52 Aguinaldo Highway, Buho, Silang, Cavite. Chen Hui’s exquisitely detailed paintings of flora, fauna and birds found in the tropical jungles and gardens of the Philippines and South America are masterpieces of timeless quality that strive to educate, enchant and endure.

Ms. Evangeline Go, President of the Philippine Orchid Society, acting president of the Cavite Department of Tourism, will cut the ceremonial ribbon to the display. A reception featuring finger-foods from Italy and China will follow immediately.

An artist of consummate skills

Chen Hui was born in Gansu, China. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree at the University of Science & Technology in Beijing, China. An avid illustrator since childhood, her art started in 2002, evolving from a casual weekend painter while living in JorBagh, New Delhi and Italy and developing into a full-time passion. Attending advanced drawing workshops in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, led her to work in a genre that has a centuries-old tradition of scientific accuracy and artistic grace.
World-renowned professional botanical artists such as Nascimento, Ormindo and Barretto, from whom she took master classes, 2005 to 2008, have inspired her. Working from the living plant, she learned the importance of precise craftsmanship, accurate color, believable form and clarity of execution. From more travels around China, Thailand and the Philippines, she developed skills that can only be achieved with patient observation and meticulous attention to detail. She infuses her work with a personal view and interpretation which make each piece uniquely hers. She is currently working on a series of botanical drawings, mainly in watercolor, depicting the beauty and textures of native flora in the Philippines.
Chen Hui holds a Certificate in Botanical Illustration with Margaret Mee Botanic Foundation and a Diploma of Botanical Illustration with the National School of Tropical Botanic at the Botanic Institute, Rio de Janeiro Botanical Garden, Brazil.
